Portland Birth Doula is rooted in the desire to support pregnant families based on their needs and desires. Megan’s role is to help families recognize their inner strength and bring it to light during their transformational birth or postpartum experience.
What is your favorite part about your job?
There are so many wonderful things about being a birth and postpartum doula, but the most special aspect is being able to witness a family transition into parenthood, and supporting their process in whatever way they desire.
Where do you hope to focus your learning next in your work?
I plan to become a lactation counselor and childbirth educator. I’m also going back to school for midwifery in the near future.
Are you a native Portlander? If not, where are you from?
Dallas, Texas
Do you have a special talent? I am a damn good baker and crafter.
Who is your favorite woman of all time?
There are so many amazing women who have put love and energy into making the world a better place. I don’t have a favorite because I’m in awe of so many. Angela Davis and Audre Lorde come to mind first.
What’s your favorite band?
That’s a hard question to answer, but I’ve always loved Joy Division and The Smiths. My heart is stuck in Texas, so I have a soft spot for old country, too.
What was the last movie you saw, and did you like it?
The last movie I saw was The Adams Family from 1991. October is my spooky movie month.
Do you speak any other languages?
My Spanish has dwindled since leaving Texas.
Describe your perfect day.
My perfect day is waking up in the morning and the weather is cool and crisp. I make a cup of hot tea with honey and sit on my porch and catch up on what’s happening around the world. In the early afternoon I make a lovely lunch, and walk Peninsula Park, and sit with a birth book for a few hours. After that I spend time with my two cats before soaking at Common Grounds, and come home to make dinner, which is shared amongst friends and family.
What is the best thing that has happened to you this year?
I was offered a position with Doula Love as a birth and postpartum doula.

I would open up a full spectrum reproductive health center. Additionally, I would donate to Doctors without Borders and Midwives for Palestine, and pay off my student loan debt from my BA degree.
Please name 1-3 other interesting facts about you!
I have a one-eyed cat.

I practice yoga.
